オーストラリア訪問
小泉防衛大臣は2026年8月18日、キャンベラ郊外の豪国防軍統合作戦本部（Headquarters Joint Operations Command: HQJOC）を訪問し、アルバニージー豪首相への表敬やマールズ豪州副首相兼国防大臣と日豪防衛相会談を実施しました。

掲載したTBS NEWS DIGの動画「日豪防衛大臣 共同記者会見」では、小泉防衛大臣は英語及び日本語にてスピーチをしています。
小泉防衛大臣は、2026年4月17日から19日の日程でオーストラリア（メルボルン）を訪問。記者会見では地名をブリスベンと間違えて発言、その後メルボルンと訂正しています。

日豪友好協力
基本条約署名50周年
今まで以上に緊密な関係を築いている日豪政府ですが、その背景には以前本ブログ記事でもご紹介した「日豪友好協力基本条約署名50周年」があります。

我が国とオーストラリアは、2026年に日豪友好協力基本条約署名から50周年となる節目の年を迎えました。
本条約は、日本とオーストラリアとの間の多岐にわたる分野での関係の拡大強化を目的とし、1976年6月16日に当時の三木武夫総理とマルコム・フレーザー首相との間で署名され、政治、経済、労働関係、人権など幅広い分野における相互理解・協力について確認しています。

In 2026, Australia and Japan are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (Friendship and Cooperation Treaty). The Friendship and Cooperation Treaty was initiated under Prime Minister Whitlam, and signed in Tokyo on 16 June 1976 by Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser and Prime Minister Miki Takeo.The Friendship and Cooperation Treaty formally recognised friendship, shared interests and interdependence as core principles, and established a framework for further cooperation. The treaty also extended most-favoured-nation treatment beyond trade in goods to include investment and migration — an important step in broadening economic ties.
The Friendship and Cooperation Treaty supported the continued expansion of the Australia–Japan relationship. Today, Australia and Japan enjoy a deep and wide-ranging relationship, underpinned by significant two-way trade, investment and strong people-to-people connections. Australia and Japan cooperate across a wide range of areas to support a peaceful, stable and prosperous region.
The 50th anniversary is focused on elevating the Australia-Japan Special Strategic Partnership, which was established in April 2015, as well as redefining our cooperation for the next 50 years and engaging the next generation of leaders.

「日豪友好協力基本条約署名50周年」の関連イベントは、オーストラリアでも多数開催されています。
そのうちの1つに、こちらも本ブログ記事で以前ご紹介していますが、日本翻訳者協会（Japan Association of Translators、略称はJAT）が運営している第34回英日・日英翻訳国際会議（IJET-34）があります。
英日・日英翻訳国際会議（IJET）は、1990年から毎年1回・2日間に渡り、日本と英語圏の国とで毎年交互に開催。今年2026年は、9月5日～6日 オーストラリア・メルボルンで開催されます。
IJET-34では、『Communication, Connection, Creativity: 人にしかできないこと』をテーマに、参加者同士が知見を共有し、活発な議論を交わしながら、翻訳・通訳業界の未来における新たな可能性を探求されるとのこと。

そのアランがメンバーであるオーストラリア・ニュージーランド商工会議所 / Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan（略記 ANZCCJ）の2026年 国際女性デー イベントにて通訳を行う通訳者を、ミーハングループはコーディネート。
プロボノ / Pro Bono Publico＝仕事で培った専門知識やスキルを活かして行う社会貢献活動の一環として、協賛致しました。
もちろんミーハングループは、これ以外にも、様々なオーストラリアに関連する案件の翻訳や通訳も手掛けています。

そして現在、ミーハングループはオーストラリア政府 / Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade が実施している New Colombo Plan Scholarship Programで来日、早稲田大学在学中の学生さんを1名 インターンシップとして受け入れています。

ミーハングループにて2026年9月中旬までインターンシップを行う Hannah Smithさんは、クィーンズランド州・ブリスベンの出身です。
Hannahさんは、10代の頃から翻訳や通訳に興味があるとの事。ミーハングループではアランさんの下でシンプルな日英翻訳や、日本的なビジネスマナー、仕事上でのコミュニケーションの仕方などを教わっています。
